Another year down....Goodbye First Grade!

I can't believe that this is Brooklyn's last week in first grade.

She had a GREAT year with her teacher (& a bride to be this summer), Ms Granger.

And loved having another year with her BFF.

And LOVED celebrating the year at Safari Nation today...

Being at the zoo this weekend...

If I Ran The Zoo...

...I would probably run things the same way they do at the NC Zoo. They are pretty awesome.

Except for the $4 Lemonades.

But anyways, we went to the zoo Sunday with Brooklyn's Daisy troop.

And they let us bring these two cuties along.

Brooklyn had a great time with her buddy, M, for the day.

And she even let me take a pic too. :-)

Jake did pretty well sans nap, however, when he got a bit cranky, a choice of two different frozen Lemonades did the trick...

...combined with a few rides on the carousel.

Me and my sweet pookie.

It was a great day but oh so tiring for the grown ups. :-)

Good Hap"pin"ings!

Pinterest in still alive and well in my meal planning. Here are some of my favorites from the last few weeks...

Chicken Kiev

Ranch Pork Chops

"Best Burger Recipe Ever" (It was pretty darn good.)

Roasted Carrots (I have to say these tasted better second day.)

And just because I referred to it in yesterday's post and this Pin cracks me up...

It's Day 74...So do I have 6-pack abs now?

And other P-90x related Q and A's.

Q: So, Jaclyn, why have you waited so long to post an update on your P90x journey? Are you holding out so the suspense mounts and there is a huge reveal at the end?
A: Well, it's hard to say. I guess in the beginning, I was hoping there would be a HUGE reveal at the end (I even took a "before" pic.). Then when I decided that I did want to post some regular updates on my progress, I realized that I had absolutely no extra time during the day and so those posts never came to be.

Q: How much weight have you lost?
A: Well, this was the funny thing. We started Season 3 Biggest Loser at work so I thought, "awesome. this will be great to encourage me to get that bikini bod." What had happened instead was that my body went into some sort of complete shock over the muscle training, and I successfully gained and lost the same 2 pounds over and over for 13 weeks. Actually, I ended the season 0.5 pounds lighter. Whoopee. It was probably due to a big bathroom break right before the weigh in.

Q: What have been the physical changes you have seen?
A: Ok, so this has been the exciting thing. I have probably not seen arm muscle definition in about 15 years when I took 1 year of weightlighting as a high school senior. I am definitely seeing my triceps, biceps, and a bit of shoulder definition. I think my back fat has decreased, too, which is always exciting for women since no one likes back boobs.

Q: What about the changes you CAN'T see?
A: I feel the best I have since college. Exercise has become a part of my daily life- instead of my monthly life. For everyone who says "I just don't have another hour in my day" (which I have said TONS of times), it's just not true. You have to shift and re-prioritize and maybe eat dinner a little later or maybe eat lunch at your desk so you can leave work a bit early, but it can happen.

Q: So, what happens in 16 days when you "graduate?"
A: Well, that's a good question. We have kinda been holding the P90 DVD's hostage and they belong to a friend so the plan is to return them. But I may try to burn my favorites and have them for future use. I think I am going to look at Pinterest and see what kind of workouts and plans are out there. I think part of the reason why I have been successful (relatively speaking) with this program is that it is so structured. There is a beginning and an end. There are worksheets. And I like to check things off.

Q: Worksheets? What's up with the worksheets?
A: I resisted the worksheets at first. I was so overwhelmed with that first workout that the thought of writing something down was too much. But then I realized that you really could see how far you have come week by week and keep track of what weights you use with each exercise.

Q: Speaking of that first workout....how did that work out for you?
A: Oh my Lord. I have never wanted to vomit after a workout before. This was the hardest, most torturing experience I have ever been through. I swear I thought Bob Harper was going to jump out of my pantry. The next day I couldn't sit up without assistance. I swear I could move faster after my c-sections. Which further emphasized to me that I had absolutely no stomach muscles to work with and I was starting from scratch.

Q: So how are those stomach muscles now?
A: Well, sadly no 6 pack for the summer, but I do see a slight bit of definition in my obliques. I have to be honest with myself and had I paired a diet of fish, carrot sticks, and banana smoothies instead of hamburgers, tator tots, and Walmart cake, I may be a bit more "bikini ready" than I am today. :-)

Q: Anything else you have discovered the last 74 days?
A: That I LOVE Zumba. And when P90 is done, I'll still have 13 more classes on my punchcard. That gets me doing physical activity through June. So, now I need a plan for July.

Off to browse Pinterest!

Strawberries, Tractors, & Goats...Oh, My!

On Friday, my mom and I took the kids strawberry picking at a local farm. We had never been to this one, and we were pleasantly surprised to find chickens, goats, cows, pigs, a tractor, and more! It was a fun afternoon adventure and had the kids talking about it all weekend.

A Mini Road Trip

Brooklyn and I took a mini road trip south to visit my dear friend, Marisa, and her sweet babies. Brooklyn had a great time being a "big helper," and I loved getting some sweet baby snuggles and catching up with the D family. Here are some pics of our fun day.

A Debut

Thursday afternoon was a first for Brooklyn. She had the opportunity to pose for some pictures using some educational products. These will be used in their promotions and packaging. I wasn't sure if Brooklyn would want to do it so I asked her first before confirming. She eagerly said yes, though started getting nervous once we got there.

She took some pics to waste some time...

When the time came, she did take a while to get comfortable but everyone was so great and sweet, and she did a great job. She was so proud of herself for trying something new.

Thank you to "Olivia's mommy" for giving Brooklyn this opportunity. And she LOVED that she got paid for her "job" too. Just enough to buy a new craft kit from Michaels. :-)

Jake is 2 1/2!

This kid is spunky.
This kid is friendly.

This kid is energetic.

This kid cracks me up.

This kid melts me.

This kid is 2 1/2.

It's unbelievable to me that Jake is now 1 day past 2.5 years old. Some days I feel like he was just born and others it feels like he has always been a part of the family. And I guess when you really think about it, God always knew he would be a part of my family, so that must be why he fits in so well. :-)

What to say about this boy who can go from hot to cold; the sweetest angel to the craziest demon child; from 0-60- in about 2 seconds....

He's 2 1/2.

He loves to play.
He loves to sing.
He loves ice cream.

His favorite color is whatever color shirt he is wearing that day.
He still loves his paci at bedtime.

He loves to laugh.
He loves to make people laugh.

He loves to take pictures.
He loves to make his own videos.
He loves being outside.

I can't really say what his favorite food is because he is really a great eater- yogurt, applesauce, pizza, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, carrots, celery, hummus, rice, french fries, hamburgers, bananas, apples, grits, eggs, pancakes, bacon, jelly sandwiches, chips, goldfish (s'mores kind is his favorite), granola bars, nutri-grain bars, hershey kisses...

And Yum Yum's hot dogs.

Sometimes he leans over and says "Mommy, I am going to kiss your cheek now."
Sometimes he gets mad when I wear my hair in a ponytail.
Sometimes he wants his sister to hold him.
And sometimes he doesn't.

He brings happiness to all who meet him.
Especially Great Grandma.

And he looks cute no matter what he wears or pretends to wear.

He knows numbers almost to 20.
He knows his ABC's.
He knows his birthday (as of yesterday).
He knows shapes (including all the "hard" ones).
He knows how to spell his name (with an emphasis on "A" for some reason- ha!).

And he knows that he has us all wrapped around his finger and that he is the light of all our lives.

We are so blessed to have his sweet boy in our family.
